Champions League Final: Betting Preview

Hard to remember a better season of Champions League football than the one currently nearing its climax and just one more match to go.

Hard to remember a better season of Champions League football than the one currently nearing its climax and just one more match to go.

Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund have been the two standout teams in the competition since it began last September and either Bundesliga giant would be more than fitting winners of the final.

Wembley hosts this all-German clash and I am very much with Bayern who finished miles ahead of their great rivals domestically.

Bayern have swept all before them both at home and abroad this term and their strength in depth is remarkable.

The bare stats alone suggest the Bavarians are by far the most likely to lift the famous trophy on Saturday night having dispatched Juventus and Barcelona, champions of Italy and Spain respectively, by a total aggregate of 11-0 in their four previous knockout matches.

The 7-0 two-legged triumph over the Catalans was incredible and nobody has got near Bayern in this season’s Champions League.

It is hard to knock Borussia Dortmund, first having topped a group including Real Madrid and Manchester City and then having got the better of the nine-time winners again in the last four, but they are much more susceptible at the back than Bayern and have also lost their star man ahead of the final.

Mario Gotze, Bayern-bound this summer, has been ruled out through injury and, while Jurgen Klopp certainly doesn’t rely on only one player, it is no doubt a crushing blow to their chances of success.

Matches between these two usually don’t produce many goals, five of the previous seven contests have featured to two or less, and I see a similar pattern at the famous stadium with the spoils on the line.

Bayern have churned out clean sheet after clean sheet this season and even against such a potent strike force, led by Robert Lewandowski, are fancied to secure another shutout.

The 1.80 for the Bavarians to get the job done in 90 minutes looks fair to me but I take a chance on them doing so without conceding.

Good luck if you can get some of Boylesports’ enhanced price of 6.00; the 3.25 is much more realistic and it promises to be a wonderful end to the European football season.
