Departing Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been crowned the League Managers’ Association Premier League Manager of the Year.
The 71-year-old Red Devils boss, who announced his retirement earlier this month, guided United to their 20th title in the 2012-13 campaign.
“In a way I am glad it is all over now because it has been hard work,” said Ferguson.
Ferguson’s final fixture was a remarkable 5-5 draw with West Bromwich and he revealed after that game it’s been an ‘overwhelming’ period for him.
“It has been overwhelming,” said Ferguson. “The club has been fantastic.”
LMA chairman Howard Wilkinson was full of praise for the outgoing Red Devils manager.
“Finding words to adequately describe the monumental levels of achievement and the indelible legacy Sir Alex Ferguson leaves in the game is nigh on impossible,” Wilkinson said.
“This evening’s award adds yet another record to that list, making him the only person to secure the much-coveted LMA Manager of the Year Award for a fourth time.”
