Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has revealed his disappointed at Gunners fans who booed Robin van Persie throughout Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United.
Van Persie, who spent eight years at Arsenal before moving to United, netted the Red Devils’ equaliser from the spot in the feisty contest.
However, the Dutchman was heckled and booed throughout the contest on his first league return to the Emirates Stadium, leaving Wenger disappointed.
“I think it’s disappointing that, when you come back, you get real aggression from the fans,” Wenger told Sky Sports.
Many Arsenal fans insist van Persie walked out on the club, in a major insult by joining their rivals United.
“They loved him, so today it was a little bit [of] disappointed love,” Wenger said.
“I don’t think he scored, he scored a penalty. It counts but it’s not completely the same.
“Our defenders didn’t make life easy for him at all. We played with great commitment. And I feel our two central defenders played very well.”
