Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has criticised referee Phil Dowd for being unable to keep up with Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Arsenal in the Premier League.
The United boss was disappointed with the official, who awarded the Red Devils the penalty for their equaliser, converted by Robin van Persie after Theo Walcott had opened the scoring inside two minutes.
However, Ferguson was left seething with Dowd’s officiating in a feisty game which saw him hand out five bookings to United players.
“Arsenal set off at a fantastic pace, very aggressive and a lot of tackles,” Ferguson told Sky Sports.
“The referee just could not keep up at that point. When we had a foul, he booked us straight away. We had five players booked.
“We have got probably the best disciplinary record in the country.
“For Manchester United to have five players booked, I do not think that is right.”
