Liverpool’s controversial striker Luis Suarez has apologised after allegedly biting Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic in Sunday’s 2-2 Premier League draw.
The Uruguayan, who was suspended for seven matches in 2010 when he bit Otman bakkal whilst playing in the Eredivisie, was engulfed in more controversy in Sunday’s contest after a clash with Ivanovic.
The Serbian defender moved to show the referee the bite marks following the incident, however there was no mistaking Suarez’s intent following video replays.
Suarez, who ironically netted a last-gasp equaliser to stun Chelsea, later came out and apologised for the incident.
“I am deeply sorry for my inexcusable behaviour earlier today during our match against Chelsea,’’ Suarez said in a statement.
‘‘I have issued an apology and have tried to contact Branislav Ivanovic to speak to him personally.
“I apologise also to my manager, playing colleagues and everyone at Liverpool Football Club for letting them down.”
