Reigning European champions Chelsea are reportedly trying to lure Malaga boss Manuel Pellegrini to the club for next season.

The Blues in the search for a new boss with interim manager Rafa Benitez not staying with the club beyond this campaign.

According to The Sun and The Daily Telegraph, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is keen to lure Pellegrini to the London outfit.

The 59-year-old Chilean guided cash-strapped Malaga to the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals this term, while he has previously led Real Madrid and Villarreal.

Former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho and Everton manager David Moyes have been linked with the post too.

Pellegrini had said earlier in the week: ā€œI would like to finish my contract here and, when my career ends, to stay here and live in Malaga.

ā€œI have an invaluable empathy with the people here, but for me the sporting project is important - and that has become distorted over time. My future is going to depend more on what Malaga do than on external offers.ā€
