The Manchester United star Robin Van Persie scored two goals for his country Netherlands against Romania in the World Cup Qualifier. He has now scored more times for his country than the Ajax and Netherlands (Oranje) icon Johan Cruyff, who captained his nation at the 1974, World Cup.
Netherlands star van Persie surpassed national footballer counterpart Johan Cruyff’s goal scoring tally for Netherlands following his two strikes in a 4-0 win against Romania.
Louis van Gaal’s side beat their eastern European opponents 4-0 in the Amsterdam Arena, with the prolific forward 29-year-old scoring the second and third goals. For Manchester United he has scored over 25 goals this season in all competitions, and has been in fine form for about two years now. He is in contention for winning the award for Player of the Year.
The first goal he scored as a field goal and his second of the match was from the penalty spot in the 65th minute. These two gaols have taken his international tally to 34 international goals, one above Cruyff with loads of games yet to play.
The former Arsenal forward is now only six goals short of Patrick Kluivert's record tally of 40 international goals tally for his country.
With Van Persie in this form and with an able midfield boasting of names like Wesley Snijder, Arjen Robben and Rafael van der Vaart, Netherlands are definitely a force to be reckoned with going into the next set of qualifiers and ultimately the next World Cup.
