Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure is facing showdown talks over a new contract with his club.

The player’s Ivorian representative Dimitri Seluk has asked the club to open talks with him and his client by Saturdays regarding a possibility of signing an extension to keep him at the Etihad Stadium.

The meeting between the club officials and the player are set to take place when he returns from international duty at the end of the week.

The meeting between the parties will basically cover topics about the player’s role at the club in the near future and his revised remuneration.

Toure has a contract that will keep him at Manchester City until the summer of 2015, but rumour has it that he could leave the club earlier sighting that only Roberto Mancini was appreciating the work done by him behind the scenes, while it his efforts were being overlooked by the other board members.

It is believed that Txiki Begiristain and the other board members have decided not be lured by the players agent and will carry out talks with the player regarding his contract only once the seasons ends.

Toure should keep his place in the squad and also be offered a better contract as he played an integral role last season when his team were crowned champions of England.

His current contract states that he earns £150,000 a week and his revised contract when and if offered to him could go up to as much as £220,000 inclusive of bonuses a week, making him one of the highest paid footballers in the league.
