Greek giants Olympiakos have clinched their 40th domestic title after defeating rivals AEK Athens 3-0 on Sunday.
Olympiakos moved 16 points with five games to play in the Greek Super League after the win, which came thanks to goals from Avraam Papadopoulos (two) and Djamel Abdoun.
“I feel very happy and satisfied. I want to thank Olympiakos for hiring me and giving me the opportunity to win this title,” the club’s boss Michel told their official website.
“Now we want to win the final five games left until the end of the season, because this is the best way to prepare the team for next year.”
Papadopoulos was delighted to have played in part in Olympiakos’ history-making triumph.
“I’ve only scored a few goals in my career so it is always nice but they pale in comparison to winning a title and the 40th one in the club’s history at that,” Papadopoulos said.
