Real Madrid assistant boss Aitor Karanka insisted his side cannot afford to get carried away with their recent successes over rivals Barcelona ahead of their UEFA Champions League Last 16 return leg against Manchester United.
The Spanish giants defeated Barcelona for the second time in a week, with their 2-1 La Liga triumph on Saturday but next face the Red Devils in Manchester.
“It is clear that the past five days and these wins make us happy. But football has these things,” Karanka said.
“Today we are happy and if we’d had believed that we’d done something extraordinary on Tuesday we could have regretted it today.
“Now we have to train, prepare for the match against Manchester United and keep going as we are.”
Reflecting on the Clasico win over Barca, where goals from Karim Benzema and Sergio Ramos decided the contest, Karanka hailed his side’s hard work and belief.
“We work hard so that the team is the best that it can be. What we do is not going to change,” he said.
“Sometimes things do not go as you want and are now they are going really well. It makes us stronger and helps us believe even more in the hard work we’re putting in”.
