Bayern Munich has celebrated manager Jupp Heynckes’s 1000th Bundesliga game with a cruishing 6-1 victory over Werder Bremen on Saturday.
The Bavarians moved 18 points clear in the Bundesliga title race, with Mario Gomez’s double and strikes from Arjen Robben, Javi Martinez, Franck Ribery and a Theodor Gebre Selassie own goal clinching the emphatic win.
Heynckes, who will step aside for Pep Guardiola next term, said: “My team did very well and scored some good goals.”
Meanwhile, Bayern CEO Karl Heinz Rummenigge praised the players for the win after their midweek UEFA Champions League triumph over Arsenal.
“It was a very good game. We maintained a high level of concentration,” he said.
“The coach chose to rotate his squad, but as we all saw, the players who came in were focused and motivated, and there was fundamentally no difference to the performance against Arsenal.
“Our declared goal is to win the league. It’s the most important trophy, and we’re on the right track.”
