Spanish giants FC Barcelona have confirmed that Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi will ink a new deal with the club on Thursday keeping him there until 2018.
The 25-year-old attacker, who is currently away on international duty with Argentina, will put pen to paper on the contract, which was agreed months ago, when he returns from South America.
Barcelona said in an online statement: “Leo Messi will be the next player to sign a new contract following captains Carles Puyol and Xavi Hernandez.
“The striker will sign his new contract on Thursday that will tie him to Barcelona until June 30, 2018.”
Messi, who is now a four-time Ballon d’Or winner, broke the record for most goals in a calendar year in 2012, netting 85 times.
The Argentina has scored 34 goals in 22 La Liga matches this term, helping Barca lead the title race by nine points.
