Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed the club have been thwarted in their bid to sign Barcelona’s Spanish striker David Villa.
Villa’s future has created widespread speculation in recent months as he struggles to win back a regular spot with the Catalans following a lengthy leg injury.
The Gunners have shown their interest in the 31-year-old striker, as they continue to lack the quality to challenge for the Premier League title.
However, Wenger has revealed they have been turned down in their bid for the ex-Valencia man.
“Barca do not want to sell David Villa. They’ve made that very clear,” Wenger said at a press conference.
“What’s important is to buy players who can strengthen the squad. Otherwise, you do nothing. We have enough numbers, quality strikers.”
Arsenal haven’t won a major trophy since their FA Cup triumph in 2005.
