Barcelona Extends Xavi Deal

Euro 2008 player of the tournament Xavi Hernandez has inked a new two-year contract extension with FC Barcelona.

Euro 2008 player of the tournament Xavi Hernandez has inked a new two-year contract extension with FC Barcelona.

The Spanish leaders confirmed the new deal on Monday, with the 33-year-old now tied down until 2016.

“Xavi Hernandez will wear azulgrana until June 30 2016, after this afternoon signing the extension of his contract with FC Barcelona,” a club statement said.

“The midfielder from Terrassa, who last Friday turned 33 years old, extends for two more years the deal which was to finish on June 30 2014.”

Xavi’s deal follows the lead of team-mate Carles Puyol and Lionel Messi who both recently agreed to extensions.

The Spanish midfielder has twice finished third in the Ballon d’Or voting, while he has won six La Liga titles with Barca.
