Ferguson: Suarez 'Laden With Controversy'

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has added some fuel to the fire ahead of his side’s clash with rivals Liverpool stating striker Luis Suarez is “laden with controversy”.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has added some fuel to the fire ahead of his side’s clash with rivals Liverpool stating striker Luis Suarez is “laden with controversy”.

Suarez has a hot history with the Red Devils following the racism incident with Patrice Evra which escalated last season.

The Uruguayan netted a goal last week after handballing the ball in an FA Cup clash with Mansfield in the latest “controversy” ahead of Sunday’s encounter between the two clubs.

“I didn’t see the Mansfield game, so it’s difficult to say if it was deliberate or not,” said Ferguson.

“But I think the lad is laden with controversy. I don’t know if he enjoys it or not.”

Ferguson later said he rarely takes much notice of Liverpool, who are once again well off the pace in the title race.

“I never even thought about that until it was mentioned on the television this week,” Ferguson explained.

“I don’t really look at that. I look at that mob that’s behind us, the team that’s directly behind us. Their programme, who they’ve got next. I do that all the time.

“Of course it’s a surprise. Last year we were 30 points ahead of Arsenal and I’d never have believed that in a million years. If you look at the rivalry over the last 20-odd years it’s quite amazing.”
