Chelsea boss Rafa Benitez has praised two-goal hero Frank Lampard after Sunday’s 2-1 triumph over Everton but given no indication on his future at the club.
The 34-year-old midfielder has been linked with an exit from Stamford Bridge with his contract due to expire at the end of the season. It is understood, Chelsea will not renew his contract, and decision made by those above Benitez.
However, Lampard showed his value to the team with his double in the hard-fought win over the Toffees who had taken an early lead through Steven Pienaar.
“I am really pleased with the team, credit to Frank for the goals,” Benitez said.
“Lampard is a great player, a good professional, who is doing well for us and I will try to bring the best out of him until the end of the season. He is one of the players who if he gets in the box he can be dangerous.
“He is under contract. He has shown his full commitment. He is a great player and my job is to keep him fit, happy and scoring goals. If he can score goals every game I’ll be pleased.”
