Rodgers: Liverpool Could've Been 3-0 Up

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers says his side could have been 3-0 up considering the number of shots they had in Saturday’s dismal 3-1 home loss to Aston Villa in the Premier League.

The Reds dominated the chances but couldn’t convert, before first-half goals from Christian Benteke and Andreas Weimann stunned them.

Benteke added a third after the break before Steven Gerrard netted a late consolation, although many of the Anfield faithful had already left by then as the Reds slumped to their third league home loss of the season.

“We probably got punished for our decision-making in that first 20 minutes, we were a bit careless,” Rodgers said.

“We could easily have been 3-0 up in the game and if we do that we can control it much better but we didn’t have that final pass and bit of quality at the top end of the field.

“Then we went on to concede some poor goals. We weren’t quite at it today with our intensity and pressure in the game and they were a threat on the counter-attack and got the goals.”

Liverpool are now down in 12th on the Premier League table, with a home record of three wins, three draws and three losses.
