Astonishing prices on offer at Anfield on Sunday and quite how Liverpool are so heavily favoured to beat Newcastle I have no idea.
I wanted to be against the Merseyside club in their Capital One Cup clash with Swansea on Wednesday but foolishly punted the unders instead of simply taking on the Reds.
Liverpool were beaten 3-1 by the Welsh side and I’m not making a similar mistake on Sunday.
Whatever the outcome between Brendan Rodgers’ side and Newcastle the home team simply have to be opposed at around the 1.55 mark allowing for the fact it is just three wins at Anfield in the Premier League in 2012.
Much was expected when the Northern Irishman arrived in the north-west but he has overseen just two top flight triumphs this term, against the lowly pair of Norwich and Reading, and Newcastle will provide a stern test.
Not even the introduction of Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarez could prevent Liverpool from going down to the Swans and they face a Newcastle team that has only lost to Manchester United (twice) in their previous 12 matches.
Although Alan Pardew’s side are yet to win on their travels this season they have only succumbed at Stamford Bridge and Old Trafford, both narrowly, and the Magpies have gained valuable points at Everton, Reading and Sunderland.
Their 1-1 draw at the Stadium of Light was a terrific effort having had to play with just 10 men for 65 minutes, following Cheikh Tiote’s red card, and confidence in the Newcastle camp should be high ahead of the Super Sunday clash.
While Demba Ba, the Premier League’s leading scorer, is an injury doubt, Newcastle have enough about them were the Senegalese striker to miss out and one goal could well be enough to land a share of the spoils given Liverpool’s lack of creativity in the final third.
I’m not expecting goals, but the visitors should leave with at least a point and are tremendous value to do so.
