Lahm Rues 'Stupid' Goals

Bayern Munich skipper Philipp Lahm says his side’s 2-1 loss to Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday - their first of the season - came down to “stupid” errors.

The Bavarians went into Sunday’s Bundesliga fixture with a perfect record, but were beaten by Stefan Kiessling’s 42nd minute tap-in and Sidney Sam’s 86th minute deflected strike.

“We conceded a really stupid goal to make it 1-0, then worked hard to make it 1-1, then conceded another equally stupid goal for 2-1,” Lahm said after the game.

However, Bayern boss Jupp Heynckes insisted the defeat wouldn’t derail their season, particularly given they still hold four-point lead from Schalke.

“We have to maintain the same pace over the 90 minutes which we showed in the second-half. When you play against a Leverkusen team, who can counter-attack excellently, then you have to play at pace for the entire match,” Heynckes said.

“We didn’t turn our superiority into goals, however, we still have a comfortable lead in the table.”
