Former Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool striker Nicolas Anelka has declared he will finish his playing career in China with Shanghai Shenhua.
The 33-year-old Frenchman quashed recent rumours of a possible move to Premier League pair QPR and West Ham United when he spoke with the Oriental Sports Daily.
Anelka, who joined Shanghai Shenhua in December on a two-year deal, said: “I won’t go back to the Premier League. If one day I leave Shenhua, it will be the day I retire.
“I will never go back, although I had a good time there. But now I’m in Shenhua and this is my own decision.”
Anelka has endured a difficult time since moving to China, with Shenhua struggling down the wrong end of the table, but he said he was excited by the signing of ex-Chelsea team-mate Didier Drogba who will arrive at the club this week.
“I am waiting for him. There were a lot of games when I was alone in front, I would think if Didier was here the situation would be better. I could pass him the ball,” he said.
