EPL 2011: Queens Park Rangers v Manchester United Player Ratings (Manchester United)

David De Gea – 8.

David De Gea – 8.5 Slowly and steadily, the Spaniard is showing his class under the bar. Made a couple of excellent saves to deny QPR. Gathered the ball well in his box, and his distribution was superb like always.

Chris Smalling – 7.5 It is hard to see either of Rafael or Fabio in the first team with Smalling in this kind of form. Strong defensively and supported his mates brilliantly in attack. This man goes from strength to strength.

Rio Ferdinand – 8.5 Yet another commanding display from the veteran defender, who has really come out and played his best football with Nemanja Vidic out for the rest of the season. Put his body on the line on one occasion, man marked Helguson in the first half and made some vital interceptions which could have been dangerous.

Jonny Evans – 7.5 A flawless performance – something of a rarity from the Northern Ireland international. Commendable display.

Patrice Evra – 6 Was tormented all afternoon by Mackie, who exposed the Frenchman on various occasions. Struggled to keep pace with the wingers who caused all sorts of trouble for Evra.

Antonio Valencia – 9 Valencia has had to wait to get his chance this season after the arrival of Ashley Young in the summer. But, he was back to his best this Sunday as he provided some much needed penetration for United on the right flank. This man brings the best out of Wayne Rooney. An assist converted by Wazza yet again.

Phil Jones – 10 Man of the match on the day. Brilliant box to box display. Phil Neville called him a β€œyoung Roy Keane” on his twitter account. Need we say more?

Michael Carrick – 8 His midfield partner did most of the running on the day and Carrick was content to stamp his class on the game from the center circle as he made some excellent passes and scored a super goal to cap an accomplished display.

Nani – 7.5 It would have been a 10 on 10 display only if he had been less selfish and passed the ball rather than going it alone. This lad was otherwise superb on the day.

Danny Welbeck – 8 A very hardworking striker is what United have got at the present time and Welbeck worked his socks off yet again. He was unlucky not to have had a goal to show for his efforts as a fantastic curling effort was saved by the QPR keeper.

Wayne Rooney – 8.5 Gave United their winner in the first minute of the game and was able to dictate the game from thereafter in a free role.

Substitutes

Javier Hernandez (63rd) – 5 Got back from injury ahead of schedule, however, he could not test the goalkeeper in half an hour on the pitch.

Ryan Giggs and Ashley Young – N/A
