Player rating for the Liverpool v Manchester City EPL match:

Liverpool

Pepe Reina – 5/10

A pathetic display from one of the most experienced goal-keepers in the league. He would have done well to stay put between the posts than running out of his area in the pursuit of the ball when he had no business chasing the ball. Was lucky not to concede to David Silva in the last minutes of the game after Martin Skrtel cleared the ball from the line.

Glen Johnson – 7.5/10martin skrtel

While his attacking credentials are well known, he was never known as a good defender. It was surprising to see him performing brilliantly defensively. It goes on to show the amount of wok he has been doing behind the scenes.

Martin Skrtel – 8/10

He looked unbeatable in the City game. He has formed a really wonderful partnership with Daniel Agger that King Kenny will be proud of. His only mistake on the night was to let Dirk Kuyt mark Vincent Kompany on a corner that was converted by the City skipper.

Daniel Agger – 9.5/10

The Dane is on his way to become one of the best defenders in the Barclays Premier League and is a huge asset for the red half of Merseyside. He just did not let Sergio Aguero play. Intercepted many a pass and was not afraid to tackle. Played some decent long balls on the afternoon as well.

Jose Enrique – 7.5/10

A very commanding display from the Spaniard. The former Newcastle United left back was astute at defending and also played his part in many a Liverpool attack at Anfield on the afternoon.

Lucas Leiva – 9.5/10

Yet another solid display from the Brazilian. He has become a crowd favorite at Anfield after a disappointing start to his career. Followed up his performance against Chelsea with yet another fantastic display against a top team.

Jordan Henderson – 5/10

A major disappointment on the night for Liverpool. Will need some time before he can be of major use in the big games. A good experience for him as far as his development as a player goes, but had Steven Gerrard been on the pitch instead of the youngster, Liverpool should have got all three points.

Charlie Adam – 8.5/10

The Scottish midfielder has proved to be an inspired signing from Kenny Daglish. His is probably the first name on the Liverpool team sheet. A real team player who worked tirelessly throughout the full 90 minutes. The Liverpool goal came from his boot as his shot was deflected into the net.

Dirk Kuyt – 7/10

Another tireless display from the hardworking Dutchman. He worked his socks off for Liverpool’s cause. Drifted to the wings on numerous occasions to create space for the likes of Charlie Adam and Luis Suarez.

Stewart Downing – 8/10

Stewart Downing will be happy with his overall performance in the game. Ideally, he would have liked to get the better of Micah Richards a few more times than he did. Had a brilliant attempt on goal saved by the imperious Joe Hart.

Luis Suarez – 6.5/10

Had a shot at goal saved from a narrow angle and a header cleared off the line with the goalkeeper beaten. Looked lively on the ball. He would have been much more influential had he not moaned about the tackles that he received and got on with the match. Was no match to Kompany and Lescott physically.

Substitutes

Andy Carroll – 8/10

Was on the pitch for a mere 10 minutes, but proved his worth. Was unbeatable in the air and caused a lot of problems for the goalee and the City back-four. Had a brilliant header saved by Joe Hart on the penultimate minute of the game.
