Player Ratings for the Manchester City v Liverpool EPL 2011 game - Manchester City
Manchester City
Joe Hart β 11/10
Our man of the match for this wonderful game of football. An emphatic display between the posts from the England number one against Liverpool in the time of adversity. Liverpool gave their all for all three points, but they just could not score past this colossal keeper.
Micah Richards β 7/10
A great display from the right back defensively. Also contributed to a couple of attacks on the right wing. Kept up his pace with Stewart Downing and we saw healthy competition on the right flank from the England teammates.
Vincent Kompany β 8/10
Scored the only goal for Manchester City. Kompany led by example as he managed his troops from the back. However, he put in some bad challenges on the afternoon and was lucky to be on the pitch honestly.
Joleon Lescott β 7.5/10
The England hopeful did no harm to his reputation as he turned in a good performance at the back alongside Kompany. Kept Suarez and Dirk Kuyt at bay throughout the match. However, he had some serious problems, especially aerially, after Andy Carroll came on for Liverpool.
Gael Clichy β 8/10
What a wonderful performance from the former Gunner. The left back was brilliant defensively β not something he is known for. He also made some dangerous runs on the left flank and sent in a couple of glorious crosses into the box which Aguero failed to connect.
Yaya Toure β 7/10
Not his elements on the day for some reason. There was no lung bursting run from midfield from the former Barcelona man, however he was good at the middle of the park. Played decent passes and kept things simple. Toure was not afraid to commit to some sharp tackles either.
Gareth Barry β 4/10
Although he was good in the first half of the match, he simply disappeared in the second half. Poor game by his standards.
James Milner β 8/10
Got at the end of every loose ball in the center of the park and made some brilliant runs from midfield to create space for the attackers. Probably the most underrated man in the City team.
David Silva β 7.5/10
He would have got 9/10 had he converted the glorious opportunity he had at the dying moments of the game. An otherwise unblemished display from the Spanish midfielder. Played some glorious through balls and passes and never lost the ball from his feet.
Samir Nasri β 5/10
He will need some time to integrate into this side. Roberto Mancini is not the same as Arsene Wenger and Nasri will need some more games under his belt to repeat his best form. Not the best performance from him in recent times.
Sergio Aguero β 1/10
Was he even on the pitch? Disappointing is one word to sum up his performance on the day.
Substitutes
Mario Balotelli -1/10
It was stupid of Balotelli to get sent off. Once he had been booked, he had absolutely no business putting his arm around the face of Martin Skrtel. Lucky to have avoided a straight red to be honest.
Edin Dzeko β 7/10
Should have started the game for City. Was impressive after coming on for Aguero. Caused some problems for Liverpool after coming on and it is puzzling why Mancini did not put him in the starting XI.
Kolo Toure β N/A
Came on in the last minute to protect Cityβs point against a menacing Liverpool side.
