Carlos Tevez will be forced to return to Manchester City, after negotiations between his club and Corinthians were cancelled. The announcement was official after Corinthians put it up in the club website. Wednesday is the transfer deadline for the Brazilian league and the club conceded that it would be impossible for them to bring Tevez back to the club, before the deadline.
The football world was surprised when the bid of £35 million came for Tevez from the Brazilian club. The club’s previous record in the transfer market was the £9.35 million that they paid for the same player to acquire his services from Boca Juniors. It was clear from the start that they were punching above their weights to buy Tevez from City.
Tevez has been clearly unhappy with the Manchester as a whole after spending two years with Manchester United and the last two seasons with City. He openly admitted his dislike for the city midway through last season and has been looking for a move ever since. He has also been away from his daughters, who live in Argentina with their mother, and this also has been cited as a reason for his grumbling.
City, finally accepted that the player was for sale and set a £50 million price for him. That set off most of the major clubs and to everyone’s surprise the bid came from Brazil of all the countries. Tevez had played for Corinthians before his move to Europe, five years back. He also seemed to be eager to move back to South America and reacted positively to the bid.
City finally accepted the offer of £35 million with a potential add-on of £4 million. However, the payment structure was not convenient after it came to light that the Brazilian club is in deep financial difficulty. Corinthians would not be able to even pay the first installment of £8.7 million.
Tevez will have to play another half hearted season for the Eastlands club, but there is still plenty of time in the transfer market for another bid to come through. City, however, seemed to have already found a replacement for the Argentinean. Sergi Aguero is most likely to be the man to replace Tevez after it was confirmed that Atletico Madrid have bought Adrian Lopez to replace Aguero.
Tevez has never been with a club for more than two years and is set out to complete a grumpy third in Manchester.
