The team at Sports Pundit decided it was time to take some initiative during this European off-season and analyse the transfers which will be going on in the football world on a weekly basis.
Today’s The week in transfers edition will be the first of many, rolled out over the next few weeks until the transfer window closes, so you can keep an eye on how your club is tracking.
English Premier League
Among the contenders for the title, Manchester City got busy this week signing Gael Clichy for £7m from Arsenal. The Sky Blues also completed a deal for Montenegrin defender Stefan Savic from Partizan Belgrade for an undisclosed fee.
Liverpool were also continuing their British transfer policy with the long-awaited capture of Scottish midfielder Charlie Adam from Blackpool for an undisclosed fee. The Reds have already signed Sunderland’s Jordan Henderson.
Champions Manchester United saw veteran duo John O’Shea and Wes Brown move onto Sunderland as Steve Bruce’s side continues it’s frenetic transfer activity along with the free transfer signing of Blackpool’s David Vaughan. Those moves follow the capture of Connor Wickham, Ji Dong-Won and Sebastian Larsson. Sunderland also let Paraguayan Cristan Riveros move on loan to Kayserispor this week too.

Spanish La Liga
Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid grabbed all the headlines in midweek when they completed the €20m move for Portuguese full-back Fabio Coentrao from Benfica. Argentine defender Ezequiel Garay went the other way to Lisbon. Pablo Sarabia was also sold to Getafe for €3m early in the week and young winger Juan Carlos Perez went to Zaragoza for €2.5m.
Sevilla completed a €2m move for Montpellier’s Bosnian international defender Emir Spahic, while Jose Carlos and Cala left for AEK Athens.
Valencia finalised a deal for Almeria’s Argentine winger Pablo Piatti for €8m, while Malaga continued their summer splurge by completing a €6m deal for forward Ismo from Los Che.
Elsewhere, Villarreal were also busy completing a €7m swoop for Colombian defender Cristian Zapata from Udinese, while Levante saw Ecuador striker Felipe Caicedo move to Lokomotiv Moscow for a nice €7.5m fee.

Italian Serie A
Juventus have become the big players of the transfer season in Italy, due to their large kitty on offer. New boss Antonio Conte this week made a €10m move to sign Swiss wing-back Stephan Lichsteiner from Lazio. There’s plenty more who’ve been linked with the Old Lady too.
Italian goalkeeper Federico Marchetti completed a move for an undisclosed fee away from Cagliari to Lazio, while Graziano Pelle returned to Italy after leaving AZ Alkmaar for Parma.
Palermo made a move for Chievo defender Andrea Mantovani which was sealed for an undisclosed fee along with Ignacio Lores from Defensor, while one-time hot property Savio was farmed out by Fiorentina to Juve Stabia.

German Bundesliga
The 2009 German champions VfL Wolfsburg have had a busy off-season, and this week sealed a deal for Juventus midfielder Hasan Salihamidzic, while Hamburg SV landed Norwegian midfielder Per Ciljan Skjelbred
Werder Bremen also completed a free transfer deal for FC Nurnberg defender Andreas Wolf, while Schalke’s Chinese midfielder Hao Junmin headed back to his homeland to join Shandong Luneng.
Other top clubs
It was a big week for Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven who landed Feyenoord’s Georginio Wijnaldum for €5m.
Eredivisie champions Ajax Amsterdam signed AZ Alkmaar striker Kolbeinn Sigthorsson for €5m, but also saw midfielder Demy de Zeeuw move to Lokomotiv Moscow for €6m.
Europa League winners FC Porto spent €2.3m to sign Maritimo’s Brazilian striker Kleber, while Luis Aguiar left Dinamo Moscow to join Sporting Lisbon on a free.
