Steve McClaren To The Netherlands

Steve McClaren is certainly someone whom the English are still trying to get over.

Steve McClaren is certainly someone whom the English are still trying to get over. After all, he is the man responsible for not threading England to the finals of the Euro 2008 and is certainly rated very lowly in the nation.

But elsewhere there is a different opinion about the former England head coach and Middlesbrough manager. Dutch club FC Twente have just appointed him as their coach from next season. McClaren has been presented with a contract that is worth 20,000 pounds per week, which is not too much but something that McClaren can build on later on.

This is what Steve McClaren told the official website of FC Twente:

“I am delighted that I have got the chance to become coach of FC Twente.

“I noted from the first meeting with chairman Joop Munsterman and other people at the club that they were very co-operative.

“It’s an exciting time for the club, they were very successful under Fred Rutten and I cannot wait to meet the players and technical staff and to get to work.”

McClaren has always succeeded as an assistant and although he did take Middlesbrough to the final of the UEFA Cup in 2006, he has yet to prove himself at club level.
