Spain national team coach Luis Aragones might not be the most popular coach Spain have had had in their entire footballing history but he is certainly on course to become the best the Iberian nation has have had statistically.

You see, should Spain win their last and virtually meaning Group D match against the defending European champions Greece on Wednesday night at the Euro 2008 finals, then Luis Aragones would rack up his 36th win as the coach of the Spanish national side. The match against Greece would be his 50th in charge of La Furia since taking over the coaching job in 2004.

At the moment Javier Clemente is the best coach in Spain’s history statistics-wise as he led Spain to 36 wins in 63 mathes under him between 1992 and 1998.

Spain are certain to put their reserves against the Greece who have been humiliated so far in the competition and shall be playing only for the sake of pride as they have already been booted out of the competition.

Should Spain win against Greece, then it would be ninth win on the trot and would equal an almost 90-year old record. Manuel Castro González led his nationa to nine successive victories before the formation of the professional league in Spain when the team embarked on an unbeaten run in 1921.
