Euro 2008: Casillas Wants Euro Triumph

No wonder that Spain are once again being touted as one of the favourites for yet another major international competition.

No wonder that Spain are once again being touted as one of the favourites for yet another major international competition. Euro 2008 is knocking on the doors and the Iberian nation is once again being tipped as champions pretenders.

Spain’s first choice custodian Iker Casillas is in buoyant mood and insists that the Spanish national side is in a better shape than it was 18 months ago. He does admit that Spain cannot take things lightly but is confident that this year coud be their year.

The Real Madrid goalie told El Mundo Deportivo:

“Being second favourites to win doesn’t mean anything to me.

“A year and a half ago we were a complete disaster and everyone was against us but we have turned things around and now everything has changed.

“We have always been a united group of players even when times were tough. Everyone has stayed together and when there have been problems we have solved them.

“We are all focused on reaching our objective which we have in mind and we want to get as far as we can.

“We have to get through the group stages and then take it from there.

“It doesn’t matter that it’s a friendly game, there is nothing in the match which will make it different from others. We have to ensure we play some good football.”

Spain do play good football but they always tend to lose matches. Every year is their year at the start of the competition and this year is again not year at the end of the competition. Would the agony stretch on this time too?
