It doesn’t really come as a surprise but nevertheless the news making the rounds all around Europe this morning is the almost inevitable sacking of the Chelsea manager Avram Grant.

The London club announced on Saturday evening local time that they have decided to terminate Grant’s managerial contract at Chelsea with immediate effect. In a statement on the club’s official website, the Blues declared that after two days of intense discussion between Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich and the club’s board of directors, it has been decided that Avram Grant is not the right man to hold Chelsea’s reign in the future.

Grant was appointed as the Chelsea manager only in September 2007 after Mr. Abramovich sacked Jose Mourinho. The Israeli led the London club to a second place finish in the Premiership narrowly losing the Premier League crown on the last day of the season.

Last week Chelsea lost the UEFA Champions League final to Manchester United on penalties in Moscow and that appears to have been the last straw that broke Grant’s back. Roman Abramovich appears to have lost patience with the former Israeli national head coach and have ultimately decided to sack him.

The second part of the statement on Chelsea’s wesbite read:

“We will now be concentrating all our efforts on identifying a new manager for Chelsea and there will be no further comment until that appointment is made.”

So who will be Chelsea’a next manager?
