Cannavaro’s current contract with Spanish giants Real Madrid ends at the end of this season and it is all but settled that the Italian international and World Cup winner is set to leave at the end of the 2008-2009 season.

Recent reports have sugggested that the Italian star would return to his former club Juventus, from whom he was signed by Real Madrid in the summer of 2006. Even his agent was quoted as saying that talks with the Old Lady are at an advanced state.

Current Juventus coach Claudio Ranieri now appears to have given a go-ahead to the deal. He has been quoted by Sky Sport Italia as saying:

“I said ok to the club for Cannavaro. However, Juventus have to speak with Real Madrid and with the player.

“With Cannavaro, [Gianluigi] Buffon, and [Giorgio] Chiellini, I will have the defence which will be going to World Cup 2010.”
