Remember Carlos Gurpegui? The Athletic de Bilbao player who rested positive for nandrolone in September 2002, but after numerous failed appeals was forced to serve a two-year suspension, starting in April of 2006?
Well, he is back in action and is set to start against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu on Sunday. This is of course a good thing to happen for the Basque giants but Real coach Bernd Schuster too feels happy that Gurpegui has returned from a two-year ban.
In a press conference on Saturday, Bernd Schuster said:
āI am glad for Gurpegui, because it has gone through a hard and difficult time. It is the worse thing that can happen to a football player and it can effect the group as well. It will be an important motivation for them to have their team-mate back among them. It will not be an easy match for us.
I remember everything that happened exactly, but now I only think about today and the fact that the player can return to his team in the Primera Division as that is what we all wanted to see.
Seems like Carlos Gurpegui has found one more friend in Bernd Schuster!
