Beckenbauer On Lahm

Bayern Munich left back Philipp Lahm has developed one of the best in the business in the last couple of years and other top European clubs are swarming in to arrest his signature. The speculation on Lam’s future at Bayern has been so intense that several sections of the Spanish media have suggested that FC Barcelona have already virtually signed the 24-year old German international.

But Bayern Munich president Franz Beckenbauer thinks otherwise. He doesn’t at all eclipse the fact that there are tensions between the club and the player over a new contract but does sound convinced that the player will make his move from the Allianz Arena only at the end of next season.

The Kaiser says:

“Lahm’s demands were a little too high in the eyes of our board of directors. Of course you can make demands and hope to get something, but whether you do get it is another question.

“It does not have to be that he leaves us now, his contract still runs until 2009. I don’t think the last word has been spoken yet.

“He fits in well here and has proven that he is a world-class player and it would be great if he stays.

“But, on the other hand, you cannot change a player’s mind when he has a huge offer and decides to move abroad.

“I think he will play for us another year and then leave to join a club like Barcelona or Manchester United.”

Kaiser, as frank as ever!
