It was clear for a while that he wanted to go back to Barcelona but his team told Barcelona that he can’t wait any longer for an offer from the club. He did want to stay in Europe but offers from clubs in the continent have not been attractive enough.
There are records that he has accepted offers for the Al-Hilal club in Saudi Arabia and that he is preparing to move. He could also choose to go to the United States and play for Inter Miami.
There are also some reports that when he signs with Miami, he will be on loan to Barcelona for a few months, at least.
Barcelona for their part is making it look like they are doing their best to get Messi back. But in truth, they are yet to make an offer for the Argentine.
It seems like Barcelona is using the distraction of Messi to keep people from focusing on the fact that the club’s debt has not been reduced.
Messi’s team had made it clear that they were prepared to play for whatever wage Barcelona would offer if it would help keep them on the right side of the Financial Fair Play regulations.
While with Barcelona, Messi won 35 trophies for the club and he scored a record of 672 goals in a total of 778 games.
