PSG’s Rico in Serious Condition Following Accident

Paris St-Germain’s backup goalkeeper Sergio Rico is reportedly in serious condition following a horse-riding accident.

The news was confirmed by the club on Sunday.

29-year-old Rico was on the bench when PSG won the Ligue 1 title on Saturday before he headed to Spain where the accident happened.

In an interview with Spanish media, a member of Rico’s entourage said that Rico was kicked in the neck.

“He is in serious condition,” said a PSG spokesperson. Spanish newspaper Marca reported that the goalkeeper was, “stable”.

In a statement released by Rico’s family, they said:

“Sergio is in good hands and is battling to pull through.”

“He is receiving the best care, we must tread with caution, especially for the next 48 hours.”

Following the accident, Rico was helicoptered to the Virgen del Rocio Hospital in Seville. He was reportedly placed on life support.

His family later said that the incident occurred after Rico’s horse became uncontrollable after passing a cart that was pulled by mules.

Rico joined PSG in 2019 on loan. He signed with them in 2020. In January 2022, he was loaned to Mallorca but returned to PSG for the current campaign.
