The pressure was immense for West Ham up until Pablo Fornals scored in the second-half injury time.
The team is hoping to lift their first trip to the 1980 FA Cup. But win it or not, there is still so much to celebrate. This is the first time in 47 years that the team has reached a final again.
Their last European Final had been the 1975-1976 season when they lost to Anderlecht 4-2.
Last season, they had come agonizingly close to a final but they lost on aggregate to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League Semifinals.
The night, however, was marred with scenes off the pitch as AZ fans attacked the area where friends and family of West Ham players sat watching the match.
West Ham players confronted AZ fans with Michail Antonio and Said Benrahma among those who tried to intervene.
Manager David Moyes said that his players were angered by what happened.
Moyes also had his own family in the area attacked by AZ fans.
“What I don’t want to do in any way is blight our night. It wasn’t West Ham supporters looking for trouble,” he said.
“Was I worried? Yeah, my family were there and I had friends in that section. You’re hoping they would try to get themselves away from it.”
“Security wanted to take me inside, but I had to make sure my players weren’t involved.”
