Erling Haaland scored a record 35th goal of the season in Manchester City’s 3-0 win against West Ham, helping his club return to the top of the table.

Haaland scored his 35th 20 minutes before the time. He is now 12 behind Dixie Dean’s all-time English record and he has roughly nine more games ahead of him.

This is the ninth successive win for City and they now lead Arsenal by a point.

After the match, Haaland was given guard honor by his teammates as he left the field for a standing ovation from the fans.

“35 Premier League goals. A big thank you to everyone for the support, nothing happens without you all, we don’t stop here!” he wrote in an Instagram post after the game.

The previous Premier League record was 34 and it was shared by Andy Coal (1993/1994) and Alan Shearer (1994/94) and that was when league seasons were 42 games long.

Shearer still holds the league record with 260 goals. He took the time to congratulate Haaland on his achievement.

“Couldn’t have wanted it to go to a nicer guy. It’s only taken 28 years!!!! He’s the best,” he wrote on Twitter.

Haaland joined City last year summer for around 60 million euros (around $63 million).

Since joining, he has scored 51 goals in 45 games in all competitions this season – more than any other player in the Premier League.
