Spain’s Manchester City midfielder Rodri slammed Scotland’s “rubbish” style after La Roja’s shock 2-0 loss in Euro 2024 qualifying on Tuesday.

Scotland pulled off the shock result with a double from Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay at Hampden Park.

Spain bossed possession with 75 per cent, along with 661 passes compared to Scotland’s 219, yet the hosts managed nine shots compared to La Roja’s eight.

“It’s the way they play, you have to respect, but for me it’s a bit rubbish,” Rodri told Viaplay.

“Always wasting time, provoking you, always they fall. For me, this is not football.

“For the speed of the sport, you have to move on. The referee has to take on this, but he says nothing.

“It’s a bit frustrating because we want to win. It’s difficult if it’s waste time, waste time.

“But they have their weapons. We have to use our weapons and we will learn for the next time.”

The result is a boost for Scotland’s qualification hopes, having opened with a 3-0 win over Cyprus.

Scotland are top of Group A with six points from two games, with Spain second on three points from two games, having won 3-0 over Norway who were without Erling Haaland first up.
