International football takes over this weekend led by the opening Euro 2024 qualification matches along with a few big friendlies.

France v Netherlands

Friday 8:45pm European time - Euro 2024 qualifiers

Two of Europe’s strongest nations do battle to kick off their Euro 2024 qualifying campaigns. Les Bleus, under new skipper Kylian Mbappe, will go in as favourites after reaching the World Cup final. But the Dutch pushed eventual champions Argentina to penalties in their quarter-final and now have Ronald Koeman back in charge.

Sweden v Belgium

Friday 8:45pm European time - Euro 2024 qualifiers

Belgium’s golden generation appeared to end during last year’s World Cup, bundled out at the group stage, while Sweden watched from afar. So the Red Devils will be determined to extend that generation given they still boast plenty of talent led by Kevin De Bruyne. Zlatan Ibrahimovic is back in the Sweden side to add some star factor.

Croatia v Wales

Saturday 8:45pm European time - Euro 2024 qualifiers

World Cup third-place finishers Croatia open their qualifying campaign at home to Wales, who had a disappointing campaign in Qatar. Croatia’s own golden generation is going on, with 37-year-old midfielder Luka Modric hinting that Euro 2024 will be his last major event. Gareth Bale has retired for Wales, who’ll be led by Aaron Ramsey.

Morocco v Brazil

Saturday 11pm European time - International friendly

Few would’ve believed that Morocco would go further than Brazil at last year’s World Cup but they did, with the African nation making continental history in their run to the semi-finals. Brazil suffered an underwhelming quarter-final loss on penalties to Croatia, leaving Neymar weighing up his future. He’s out injured, with Vinicius Junior leading the line in Tangier.

England v Ukraine

Sunday 5pm European time - Euro 2024 qualifiers

England’s Euro 2024 qualifying campaign started excellently with a rare win in Italy, triumphing 2-1. Gareth Southgate’s side were disappointed to not go further at the World Cup, losing in the quarter-finals to France, but they have been regulars in the pointy end of major events under him, so the Euros are a big chance. Ukraine won’t be easy despite their own challenges.
