Neymar is set to miss the rest of the season as he will require surgery on his ankle injury.

Back on February 19, the Paris St-Germain striker was carried off on a stretcher just five minutes into the second half after he went over badly on his right ankle.

According to PSG, Neymar has had issues with his ankle over the years and he has now been elected for surgery in order to “avoid a major risk of recurrence.”

They also said that it may be three to four months before the striker can resume training. This means, missing out on the rest of the season.

“Neymar has had several episodes of instability in his right ankle in recent years,” PSG said.

“Following his last sprain contracted on February 20, the medical staff… recommended a ligament repair operation to avoid a major risk of recurrence. All the experts consulted have confirmed this necessity. A delay of three to four months is expected before his return to training.”

This is not the first time that Neymar has had to miss important matches due to his right foot. Back in 2022, he had to miss two matches in the World Cup when he was injured in the opening group match against Serbia.

Also, back in 2019, he missed playing in the Copa America after he sustained torn ligaments in his right ankle. Back in 2021, he also missed out on several matches with a similar injury.

PSG says that Neymar will undergo surgery in Doha, Qatar.

Without Neymar, PSG will next go up against Bayern Munich on Wednesday in the Champions League. They are currently at the top of the league with an eight-point league over Marseille.
