Croatia veteran Luka Modric will play on internationally following the side’s third-place finish at the 2022 World Cup which was capped with Saturday’s 2-1 win over Morocco.

The 37-year-old Real Madrid midfielder’s future has been widely discussed, although this tournament does appear to be his final World Cup, he is planning on playing on.

“Thats the plan,” he said.

“When we got to the final, I took part in all of that, it would be pointless if I didnt play the Nations League finals, so after that well see how to proceed.

“But I definitely want to stay for the Nations League.”

Euro 2024 is only 18 months away, while Croatia will compete against Spain, Italy and the Netherlands in the Nations League Finals in June next year.

Modric has played 162 times for Croatia, including helping the side reach the 2018 World Cup final.

“We did something incredible for Croatia and Croatian football,” Modric said. “We wanted gold, we were close.

“Unfortunately, we did not succeed and we are sorry, but in the end we can be happy and proud of what we did and how we played this tournament.

“We are going to Croatia as winners, that is what we wanted and achieved. Now lets have fun and enjoy what weve done, this is a big deal.”
