Croatia boss Zlatko Dalic has attempted to heap the pressure on Argentina ahead of their World Cup semi-final on Tuesday.

The two nations will meet for a spot in the final, but Dalic insisted that the Argentines were under more pressure in what will be seven-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi’s last World Cup.

“We are playing the great Argentina, a terrific team led by Lionel Messi,” Dalic told reporters.

“They are highly motivated, but they’re under greater pressure than Croatia at this particular moment in time.”

Croatia’s run to the last four has been a surprise, claiming only one win from five games after regulation time, with both of their knockout wins coming in a penalty shootout.

Argentina’s run to the semi-finals started slowly, losing 2-1 to Saudi Arabia, before bouncing back with strong wins over Mexico and Poland, before knocking out Australia and then a shootout win over the Netherlands.

“We have analysed our opponent,” Dalic said. “We know how they play.

“We know where they want to take the game, and were preparing for them.

“We shall not adapt to our opponent too much. We know their strengths and weaknesses, but will continue to play our own game, and I hope it will yield the right result.”
