The three-day turnaround will test both sides, amid the congested fixture list in Qatar for the event which comes midway through the European club season. Scaloni labeled the short turnaround as “crazy”.
“I think it’s crazy we are playing in just over two days, as winners of this group,” Scaloni told reporters.
“I can’t really understand this. It’s almost 1am, tomorrow is Thursday. We could have had more rest.
“I want to make it clear that it doesn’t seem right to me that we have just two and a half days of rest after being first in the group. These conditions aren’t great.
“We have watched few videos of Australia. From tomorrow, we will prepare thoroughly and analyse them.”
There had been calls for Scaloni to substitute out veteran forward Lionel Messi for his preservation in the tournament, but he played the full 90 minutes.
“I wouldn’t substitute Messi unless he tells me to,” he said.
Messi had a 39th minute penalty saved by Poland goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny too.
Poland got through in second spot in the group on goal difference ahead of Mexico who beat Saudi Arabia 2-1.
Salem Al Dawsari’s 95th minute goal for Saudi Arabia gave Poland the edge on Mexico on goal difference, otherwise the two sides would’ve been level on points, goal difference, goals scored and head-to-head, with yellow cards to determine who progressed.
