Lionel Messi pulled off some truly incredible football to help Argentina win 2-0 against Mexico, keeping the country’s World Cup hopes alive.

After their devastating loss to Saudi Arabia, Messi, aided by Enzo Fernandez, managed to help Argentina win against Mexico at the Lusail Stadium in Qatar.

64 minutes into their match against Mexico, Messi scored a goal that was celebrated by thousands of Argentine fans, it even brought tears to the eyes of some.

As the crowd erupted in cheers, they also began changing Messi’s name and singing, “Geeeeennnioooo”.

It was followed by a superb second goal by Fernandez.

Following the win, Messi said in Spanish, “This brings us more calmness”.

Messi and Argentina had arrived in Qatar as joint favorites to win the World Cup, alongside South Africa, who are also favorites.

There was much frustration following their loss against Saudi Arabia.

“After the loss,” Messi admitted, “I was very anxious.”

Their anxiety was compounded by the fact that the Mexican team gave it their all as well.

“The first half was very tense,” Messi later said. “We couldn’t find spaces because Mexico closed up like never before.”

“We needed this euphoria,” Messi said at a news conference. The win, he said “was a weight off our shoulders, and we now have peace of mind.”

Argentina is now in second place in Group C on a goal differential. They will next go against Poland on Wednesday.
