Fabrizio Romano reported that the situation between Mbappe and PSG had got tense, with the France international unhappy, wanting to leave and putting pressure on the club who had no intention to let him go.
Following a long courtship from Real Madrid, Mbappe had re-signed with PSG until 2025 in May and the 23-year-old has netted 12 goals in 13 games in all competitions this season.
But the speculation ahead of PSG’s 1-1 draw with Benfica led to club football advisor Luis Campos moving to address the talk.
“There are rumours every day,” he told Canal+. “I’m with Kylian every day, and he never spoke to me about a departure in January. Nor to the president.
“It’s not a statement from the player but information that I therefore come to deny: Kylian Mbappe never spoke to me about leaving PSG in January. We never talked about that. It’s very clear.
“An impact on the locker room? No, they are experienced players. It’s not real news anyway, and it’s not going to disrupt the group.”
With Lionel Messi out injured, Mbappe scored PSG’s goal in the draw, netting in the 39th minute from the penalty spot.
PSG boss Christophe Galtier said after the game: “Kylian showed tonight that he is a great player and that he is focused on the competition.”
On Luis Campos’ decision to shut down the speculation on Mbappe, he added: “From a rumour we turn it into information, from information we turn it into a statement. I find it very surprising to release this before an important game.”
