English Premier League fixtures will resume this weekend with seven games to go ahead but three have been postponed following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

The Premier League made the announcement on Monday, with Chelsea-Liverpool, Manchester United-Leeds United and Brighton and Hove Albion-Crystal Palace postponed.

The former two games have been postponed due to policing issues with Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral to take place on Monday 19 September, while the latter remains off despite the cancellation of a proposed train strike.

“Following extensive consultation with clubs, police, local Safety Advisory Groups and other relevant authorities, there was no other option but to postpone the three fixtures,” the statement read.

“The Premier League would like to thank the UK Football Policing Unit and other police forces across the country, as well as our broadcast partners, for their support during this process, and will continue to liaise with them ahead of the weekend.

“For the matches being played during the period of National Mourning, tributes will be paid to The Queen at Premier League stadiums.

“New dates for the postponed matches will be announced in due course.”

Arsenal have also had their Europa League clash with PSV Eindhoven on Thursday postponed due to a lack of available police resources in London.

UEFA said that a new date will be communicated in due course for the fixture.

Scottish club Rangers have also had their UEFA Champions League home game with Napoli pushed back 24 hours from Tuesday to Wednesday, again due to police issues.

The English Football League will recommence on Tuesday, including a raft of Championship fixtures.
