Erling Haaland’s goal scoring continues to bely belief with the new Manchester City striker netting a double in their 4-0 win at Sevilla prompting praise from boss Pep Guardiola.

Haaland took his season tally to 12 goals from seven games for City as they destroyed the Spanish side in the opening matchday of the UEFA Champions League.

The Norwegian’s strike also took him to 25 goals in the Champions League, coming across only 20 games for City, Borussia Dortmund and Salzburg.

That marks the fastest player to 25 goals in tournament history, smashing Ruud van Nistelrooy and Filippo Inzaghi’s previous mark of 30 games.

“I think his numbers in all his career, even in previous teams, is quite similar. He has an incredible sense of goal,” Guardiola added.

“Hopefully he can continue. Its not just the goals. Always he is there. Julian (Alvarez) played 15, 20 minutes and had a chance too.

“I have said many times we have two incredible strikers.

“We have incredible numbers in terms of goals and we need to continue like that. Another battle against Tottenham and hopefully we can continue.”

Guardiola also praised debutant Manuel Akanji having joined from Borussia Dortmund late last week, along with the returning Jack Grealish.

On Grealish, he said: “Jack arrived incredible in the pre-season. In the first game against West Ham unfortunately he had a little injury. It’s important for him to have again this 53, 60 minutes.”

“The pitch was uncomfortable for the players. He was so aggressive in the first half, more than aggressive than Phil (Foden) in terms of goal and making the movements in there.

“Sometimes missed the last pass but it’s not easy there. We need him a lot this season. Jack will be so important. He played a really good game.”
