The 21-year old French international striker is rated as one of the best players in Europe and has been linked with a number of top guns in Europe over the past several months. He was quoted last week as saying that he had promised his mother long back that he would play for Real Madrid one day.

The Lyon hit machine has once again been quoted as saying something similar. Tribalfootball quotes the star player as saying:

“I have said it several times. Since childhood, Madrid is the team that I have wanted to play for. There are other interesting teams but Madrid is the club that I like the most.”

But it does not seem too likely that Benzema would be able to make the move next month or in the summer of 2009. Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has made it clear that the player is not for sale until 2010.

The Lyon chief has been quoted by l’Equipe as saying:

“He will not go. He will stay until 2010. Karim is a player of global value and is indispensible to the club.”
