There were some major repercussions over the weekend with Inter Milan stumbling, Barcelona destroying Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund losing ground on Bayern Munich.

Inter Milan were the big losers of the opening round with a 1-1 home draw with Fiorentina leaving them six points off the pace. Denzel Dumfries’ 55th-minute goal leveled up Lucas Torreira’s strike to earn Inter a point.

AC Milan maintained their grip on top spot with a 1-0 victory at Cagliari, while Napoli maintained the pressure with a 2-1 win over Udinese. Juventus continue to stay in the hunt with a 2-0 home triumph over Salernitana meaning they are within one point of Inter. Fifth-placed Atalanta snapped their winless run with a 1-0 triumph at Bologna, while AS Roma won the derby 3-0 over Lazio. Struggling Genoa boosted their survival hopes with a 1-0 win over Torino.

Barcelona smashed Real Madrid 4-0 in Sunday’s Clasico with boss Xavi Hernandez and captain Sergio Busquets both acknowledging they that are still a chance to win the title afterwards, as unlikely as that seems. Barca have all the momentum and a game in hand but Real have a major lead.

Second-placed Sevilla wavered again with their third straight draw, held 0-0 with Real Sociedad. Atletico Madrid won again 1-0 at Rayo Vallecano despite being reduced to 10 men, while Real Betis could only manage a 0-0 draw at Celta Vigo. Struggling Granada and Cadiz were both key winners in the relegation battle.

Paulinho struck twice late to boost third-placed Bayer Leverkusen after their recent wobbles, while fourth-placed RB Leipzig could only manage a 1-1 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt and SC Freiburg spurned a golden opportunity to move ahead with a 0-0 draw at bottom club Greuther Furth. Struggling Hertha Berlin got an important win under new boss Felix Magath, beating Hoffenheim 3-0 to move them up to 16th.
