Manchester City moved 11 points clear in the English Premier League, while Inter Milan offered rivals AC Milan the chance to go top in Italy across an exciting weekend.

Manchester City extended their lead at the summit after Kevin De Bruyne’s winner sealed a 1-0 victory over Chelsea, while Liverpool moved into second spot, 11 points with a game in hand behind, with a 3-0 home win over Brentford.

The race for fourth spot is more tense, with West Ham United stumbling 3-2 at home to lowly Leeds United, while Arsenal’s North London derby with Tottenham was postponed. Seventh-placed Manchester United failed to capitalise after blowing a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Aston Villa. Wolverhampton beat Southampton 3-1 to firm up eighth spot.

Bayern Munich flexed their muscle with Robert Lewandowski netting a hat-trick in a 4-0 win away to FC Koln to shore up their six-point advantage at the top.

Second-placed Borussia Dortmund had won 5-1 over contenders SC Freiburg on Friday night, with Thomas Meunier and Erling Haaland hitting braces. Bayer Leverkusen move up into third with a 2-1 win away to Borussia Moenchengladbach, while Hoffenheim stumbled with a 2-1 loss at Union Berlin who moved above Freiburg into the top five. RB Leipzig moved up to seventh with back-to-back wins, getting past VfB Stuttgart 2-0.

Leaders Inter Milan had their winning run halted by fourth-placed Atalanta in a 0-0 draw on Sunday. Inter had won eight in a row in Serie A. Second-placed AC Milan can go top when they host 16th-placed Spezia on Monday.

Third-placed Napoli are also in action on Monday away to Bologna, with fifth-placed Juventus making ground on the top few with a 2-0 home triumph over Udinese as they quietly move into contention as they go an eight-game unbeaten run.

Leaders Paris Saint-Germain had drawn three of their previous four league games but found form with a solid 2-0 home win over Brest as Kylian Mbappe got on the scoresheet.

Second-placed Nice claimed their fourth straight win, beating Nantes 2-1, while Marseille were held 1-1 by champions Lille, who remain off the pace in 10th spot. Rennes snapped a three-game losing run with a 6-0 rout of 10-man Bordeaux. Lyon ended a run of draws with a 1-0 victory at Troyes.
