One of the most legendary football players, Gerd Muller, had died at age 75 after battling dementia for more than 6 years.

In 2015, Bayern Munich announced that Muller had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and left him next to nothing, as he lays in his bed all day. The football legend has also suffered from intoxication and alcoholism when his career ended in 1982.

Bayern Munich announced his death on Sunday, which caused sadness to many football players and fans. He held the nickname “Der Bomber” during his career, and Pep Guardiola has considered him the greatest striker ever. Muller also brought victory to his home country after winning the 1974 FIFA World Cup and 1972 Euros titles.

Mullen was born in Bavaria in 1945, and he began his local career in 1861 Nordlingen where he scored 51 goals in 31 games. He soon joined Bayern Munich, which he helped promote their legacy to become one of the German top teams.

Muller was Bayern Munich’s record holder and goal scorer with 552 goals in 607 games, while his total career had recorded 711 goals in 780 games for the club and country. Bayern Munich’s president Herbert Hainer expressed that today is a sad day for the team and his fans, as he became of the greatest personalities in football history, therefore his death has affected everyone deeply.

He left his wife Uschi Muller, of whom he was married for more than 50 years, and his daughter, Nicole.
